Points and perks: Scotiabank Gold American Express® credit card launch
I’ve been lucky enough to attend some pretty sweet brand events lately, and the first to dazzle me was the launch of the Scotiabank Gold American Express® card. It was a great night, and the information presented gave me some food for thought, and so I wanted to write about it.
But first. Things you need to know off of the bat: they didn’t ask me to write this post, I was not compensated for this post, I don’t bank with Scotiabank and I don’t currently have an American Express card.
So the launch itself consisted of a catered dinner with entertainment in a working hangar at the Billy Bishop Island Airport with other social media friends and banking executives Which could have been an interesting mix, but the conversation easily flowed. Our table ended up talking at length about children’s use of technology and gaming.
Hey, it’s the elusive motherbumper! And me. And the not-so-elusive-since-I-see-her-almost-weekly Rebecca from Playground Confidential.
The food was delicious. The drinks were divine. There was a fire-eater and a performance from the Zero Gravity Circus all around us! It was honestly great, and very well planned and executed.
Most importantly, the night got me thinking about how we use credit cards in this family. Do you use credit cards?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want you to think that living beyond your means and acquiring personal debt is good. It is not. Don’t do that.
We use credit cards in place of cash for things like groceries and gas, and then pay off our monthly balance in full. We then collect either cash back, or points for grocery shopping.
There are sites you can Google that can help you decide on the right credit card for your needs, and which points or perks fit with your life. We do travel a fair amount, so me attending the launch lead us to a discussion about collecting travel points, which we currently don’t do.
We ultimately decided that our cash back cards were probably working hard enough for us, and we like the flexibility of looking for our own travel deals online.
Are your credit cards working for you? The Scotiabank Gold American Express® card certainly has some interesting features that can make the annual fee worth it, including copious amount of travel-related insurance. You can find more information about it here.
