‘Toons for Toddlers: The Wiggles Big Birthday

If you haven’t taken your little ones to the movies before, the first time can be a little daunting. I don’t know about you, but two hours in a dark room with loud noises and bright bursts of light on a giant screen with not enough popcorn doesn’t quite seem so fun when your three-year old might just lose it. Oh, and your four-year old needs to pee every ten minutes. Which happened during Cars 2. Anyway.

When our oldest two were little, we went to a couple of ‘Toons for Toddlers screenings including a very memorable Thomas the Tank Engine feature that they still talk about. I enjoyed the casual atmosphere of like-minded/like-stressed out parents, and the kids got to watch something shorter than a full length film on the big screen with bonus treats like stickers and toys. They dim the lights rather than plunge you into darkness, and the movies aren’t quite as loud as usual.

In just over a week, ‘Toons for Toddlers is hosting screenings of the Wiggles Big Birthday movie at cinemas across Ontario and in a few other provinces. The good news for us is that one of them is walking distance from our house! I’m going to be busy that morning, but either my husband or my mother will take at least some of the kids.

The almost-five year old is coming to the end of his Wiggles fandom but his baby brother will catch up soon. We saw them live a couple of years ago and it was a lot of fun. I’m sure they are going to enjoy the cinema experience, along with the bonus stickers or colouring sheets. And popcorn will be consumed, no doubt.

Check out ‘Toons for Toddlers for cinema listings near you, for October 20 and 21 screenings. If you’re in Toronto like me, you can see it at Rainbow Cinemas Promenade (Thornhill), Rainbow Cinemas Market Square (Front & Jarvis), Rainbow Cinemas Woodbine (Etobicoke), The Fox Cinema in the Beach, or the Revue Cinema in the west end.  Tickets are only $6 and babies in arms like Charlie are free.
