Milestones
This weekend it’s my grandparents’ 70th wedding anniversary. Seventy years. Pretty sure I won’t be able to find a standard anniversary greeting card with that many years on it – though you can get a greeting from the Queen (my uncle may have already arranged that one – he’s quite organized about that sort of thing). Pretty sure no one else I know will end up married that long – even if we all wanted to. Their health is declining as they age, unsurprisingly, and half the time they can’t stand each other, but in my family, that’s a normal sort of relationship. Still in it together after all this time. Kind of amazing.
This week it’s my mum’s 60th birthday. Thankfully, greeting cards are plentiful in this age range! I remember when I was little and my grandmother was in her sixties. It no longer seems very old to me. She’s looking forward to retirement and I’m hoping that means she has more time with the grandchildren (slightly selfishly). We’re going to celebrate this weekend when my parents get back from seeing my grandparents in Ottawa. I’m sorry I won’t be there with them.
This week is also Queen Elizabeth’s diamond jubilee, marking 60 years of her reign as Queen. Which I wouldn’t even really note except it must have been interesting times, 60 years ago, when my mum was born (in England) the same week as the King died. I really should ask my grandmother about that.
This week Charlie is 14 weeks old (note that I just had to look at the calendar and count since I can’t keep track) and is basically just delightful. If he’s awake he’s smiling or taking everything in. He’s eating well and sleeping well and traveled well with us to England and back, and everything is good. (crap, did I just curse myself?)
Other than that, it’s just a regular week around these parts as we get back into routine after our trip and conquering our jet lag, besides a few major (and minor) milestones. Have you got anything momentous going on this week?

SEVENTY YEARS! Impressive. Most marriages today don’t even last 70 Dog Years.
My Nanny looks exactly the same today as she did when I was born. Not that I’m going to say that to her. She was 53 when I was born and it seems cruel to tell a 92 year old she aged prematurely.
(I’m having trouble posting this comment — excuse me if I double up on comments)
